Historic Night in WV as Amendment 1 Passes and Successful Endorsements Allow for Biggest Pro-Life Gains Yet

Amendment 1 historically passed statewide with 5,878 voters making the difference. Legislative Coordinator for the WV Alliance for Ethical Health Care, Mary H. Tillman, JD, said, “The WV Alliance for Ethical Health Care, West Virginians for Life, and organizations that advocate for the rights of persons living with disabilities celebrate the successful passage of Amendment 1. Following the strong example of our legislators who voted by overwhelming majorities, the voters of WV have now also shown their belief that all lives in our beautiful state, regardless of age or ability, will be respected and protected from the dangers of medically-assisted suicide. West Virginia becomes the first state in the United States of America to proactively protect all its citizens and health care institutions from the dangerous trend of assisted suicide by a state constitutional amendment.”

Of the 113 races in which the West Virginians for Life PAC (WVL-PAC) endorsed candidates, a 95% success rate has been realized. West Virginia, not surprisingly, gave all four of its electoral votes to Donald Trump on November 5. WVFL President Wanda Franz, Ph.D., said, “West Virginia is a national leader in its support for the conservative pro-life values of former President Donald J. Trump, who represents the values of WV families.”

With 69% of the vote, Jim Justice won the US Senate seat left open by Joe Manchin’s departure. First District Congressional incumbent Carol Miller retained her seat for a third term. In the Second Congressional District, Riley Moore defeated his opponent by a margin of 71%-29%. This completed a pro-life sweep of the entire slate of federal candidates.

The WVL-PAC enjoyed wins in all six statewide races. Patrick Morrisey won the governorship with 69% of the vote. JB McCuskey will be the new Attorney General ensuring that pro-life legislation will be defended if challenged. Kris Warner easily won the Secretary of State seat. Mark Hunt will be the State Auditor. Kent Leonhardt will remain Agriculture Commissioner.

Of the 16 Senate races in which endorsements were made, 15 were winners. Thirty-three of 34 senators will be supporting pro-life policies.

WVL-PAC can report only five losses in the endorsed State House races. With a net gain of +6 pro-life seats, 87 of the 100 members of the State House will be pro-life as the next legislative session begins in February 2025.

In conclusion, Wanda Franz, Ph.D., WVL-PAC president, said: “West Virginians for Life is proud of its overwhelming success in supporting pro-life legislators and we look forward to working with them in the upcoming session.”

West Virginians for Life, the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee, is the state’s largest pro-life group with more than 30 local pro-life chapters. West Virginians for Life works through education, legislation, and political action to protect those threatened by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.

West Virginia House Passes Pro-Life Bill Saving Babies From Abortion

By MARY ANNE BUCHANAN

The Second Chances at Life Act (HB 2982/SB 609) successfully passed in the West Virginia House of Delegates today by a bipartisan 83-15 vote. Passage followed a 19-5 vote in the House Health Committee on March 16 and a 22-3 vote in the House Judiciary Committee on March 18.

The Second Chances at Life Act next moves to the Senate Health Committee.

West Virginia is well on the way to becoming the 11th state to have this law in place. The other ten states are Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and Arizona whose original law was repealed and replaced with weaker language.

Sponsored by Delegate Kayla Kessinger, the bill will require that a woman be informed that the effects of the chemical abortion pill can be reversed to save her baby, if she changes her mind after taking it. House cosponsors include Delegates Trent Barnhart, Jordan Bridges, Adam Burkhammer, Josh Holstein, Laura Kimble, Todd Longanacre, Margitta Mazzocchi, Jeff Pack, Jonathan Pinson, and Terri Sypolt.

“West Virginians for Life thanks those Delegates who voted for the bill in support of women seeking abortions by providing them with additional information so they can make a truly informed decision,” stated WVFL President, Dr. Wanda Franz, Ph.D.

Contrary to critics, the bill does not tell physicians how to practice medicine, or place obstacles on women seeking abortions. But it does save babies: To date over 2,000 babies have been saved nationwide by the Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) protocol.

The American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a 2,500-member OB-GYN medical group, supports knowledgeable health care providers offering the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol to women who regret initiating the abortion pill process.

The APR involves use of progesterone to reverse the effects of the Mifepristone. Progesterone is a natural element in the woman’s body required to retain her pregnancy. As such, it does no damage to the baby. It has been used for 50 years in infertility clinics to help women retain their pregnancies.

In West Virginia, chemical abortions account for more than 40% of abortions.

A woman or girl wanting to save her baby once the chemical abortion process has started should contact a health care professional at abortionpillreversal.com or call 877-558-0333.

Amy Coney Barrett: Roe v. Wade is Not a “Super-Precedent” That Can’t be Overturned

Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett says she doesn’t consider the Roe v. Wade decision that allowed abortion on demand a “super-precedent” that can’t be overturned.

Judge Barrett said Roe is not in same category as the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling, which declared segregated public schools unconstitutional because there is still a massive debate about whether Roe is legitimate.

Barrett says no one talks about overturning the Brown decision but explained that significant disagreement over it “indicates Roe doesn’t fall in that category.” She says it’s “not a case that’s universally accepted.”

“Well people use super precedent differently. The way that it’s used in the scholarship and the way that I was using it in the article the that you’re reading from was to define cases that are so well settled that no political actors and no people seriously push for their overruling and I’m answering a lot of questions about Roe, which I think indicates that Roe doesn’t fall in that category,” Barrett said.

Senate Democrats Trash Amy Coney Barrett: The Right to Kill Babies in Abortions “is at Stake”

Democrat senators backed by the pro-abortion movement blasted U.S. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett as a threat to Roe v. Wade on Monday during her Senate confirmation hearing.

Planned Parenthood favorites Sens. Kamala Harris, of California, and Cory Booker, of New Jersey, especially tried to drum up fear by claiming women’s rights are at stake. And by women’s rights, they mean abortion on demand. Barrett believes in “the value of human life from conception to natural death.”

“People are scared right now … because they know what a future without the protections of Roe v. Wade looks like,” Booker said at the hearing. “Without Roe v. Wade, our country looks like people being denied the ability to make decisions about their own bodies, not just while they are pregnant but being stripped of the right to plan for their future.”

Barrett is President Donald Trump’s choice to fill the seat of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an idol of abortion activists who died in September. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Barrett would solidify a strong 6-3 conservative majority on the high court.

Pro-life advocates hope and abortion activists fear that Barrett could lead to the undoing of Roe v. Wade and help restore protections for unborn babies.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett: “I Believe in the Power of Prayer.” Thank You for “Praying for Me”

Judge Amy Coney Barrett delivered her opening remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning and she made two major points.

First, she talked about the proper role of the courts, saying they are not supposed to make law and legislate from the bench. She also refused to back down to attacks from Senate Democrats on her faith, saying she strongly believes in prayer and thanked the many Americans who are prayer for her amid those attacks on her Christian faith.

“I believe in the power of prayer and it’s been uplifting that so many people have been praying for me,” Judge Barrett told members of the judicial panel.

“Nothing is more important to me, and I am so proud to have them behind me,” she added.

SIGN THE PETITION: Vote to Confirm Supreme Court Nominee Amy Coney Barrett

Before that, Judge Barrett discussed the proper role of the Supreme Court.

“Courts are not designed to solve every problem or right every wrong in our life,” she explained. “The policy decisions and value judgments of government must be made by the political branches elected by and accountable to the People. The public should not expect courts to do so, and courts should not try.”

“When I write an opinion resolving a case, I read every word from the perspective of the losing party. I ask myself how would I view the decision if one of my children was the party I was ruling against,” she went on to say. “Even though I would not like the result, would I understand that the decision was fairly reasoned and grounded in the law? That is the standard I set for myself in every case, and it is the standard I will follow as long as I am a judge on any court.”

The federal appeals court justice also praised Justice Antonin Sclaia, for whom she clerked, as a mentor and great influence on her judicial perspective and philosophy.

“Justice Scalia taught me more than just law. He was devoted to his family. Resolute in his beliefs. And fearless of criticism. And as I embarked my own legal career, I resolved to maintain that same perspective,” Judge Barrett said.
